In 1991, the East Carolina Pirates rose up from the coast and shanghaied old-time rivals who had keel-hauled them many times in the past. The chief buccaneer was future NFL quarterback Jeff Blake. Blake and his crew faced in-state rival North Carolina State in the 1992 Peach Bowl. Things looked bleak for the Pirates until the 4th quarter when Blake captained a comeback for the ages. The Blake story ran in the December 1999 issue of Sports Spectrum magazine.
